Log speaks to itself about light art and the physical properties of light. Its speech sounds reasonable at first, but gradually the listener notices it sliding, subtly, into nonsense. Log asks the viewer to question the accuracy of information offered by artificial intelligence, and to think about the frameworks behind different definitions of light art. Log's textual material is partly generated with the help of AI.
In form the work resembles an open fire: two black, cylindrical "logs" stacked on each other, a digital flicker reflecting through the gap between them. The open fire connects thematically to stillness, focus and a meditative state.
The work was exhibited in the Boisterous Light group exhibition at Hyvinkää Art Museum, autumn 2023 – January 2024.
