Hautamäki has held numerous interactive sound art and electronics workshops, courses and lectures in Finland (Kiasma, MUU, Aalto University, Art & Craft School Robotti, Mansedanse) and in Germany, the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, France, Canada and the USA.
Themes have included generative AI, primitive electronic sound devices, Arduino programming and prototyping (basics, advanced, robots), MaxMSP (sound, interactivity, Arduino), Puredata, Arduino and lights, lights and sound, circuit bending, trash electronics, electroacoustic DIY instruments, wearable electronics, electromagnetic scanners, DIY amps, sensors (switches, pressure, bend, light, IR, piezos), solar and wind powered synths, motors (DC, servo and stepper), wireless communication and embedded systems.
workshop format
Solar NAND synth. In a one-day workshop (minimum 3 hours) participants build a NAND synthesizer with 1–4 oscillators, powered by sunlight or other light sources. The sound changes with the amount of light. A simple approach to learning DIY synth building and basic electronics.
Material fee from 15 €. No previous experience in electronics needed. Optionally two days, with the synth built into its own amplifier and speaker.
